Congratulations to the Recipients of the
2008 Imperial County Farm Bureau Scholarships!

Each year, the Imperial County Farm Bureau presents local students with scholarships to aid them in their studies. The scholarship fund is supported by donations and our annual Farm Bureau Scholarship Barbecue, held annually on the last Friday in April.

The following students were selected to receive scholarships during 2008.

Jessica Thompson
Jessica Thompson
Jessica will be entering her final undergrad year at UC Davis, where she volunteers at the UC Davis Veterinarian Medicine Teaching Hospital in the large animal surgery department. You can hear Jessica in a weekly Farm Report on the KGBA 100.1FM during the second week of August.




Kelly Bishop

Kelly is now a senior at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and is working to complete her degree in Ag Science with an emphasis in Ag Education and Communications. She has been very active throughout her college experience, serving on numerous committees and clubs. Kelly was awarded both a Vern Highley Scholarship and an Imperial County Farm Bureau Scholarship this year.

Brianne is a Brawley Union High School graduate, and will be studying at UC Santa Barbara. She has been a very active student, receiving many scholastic awards and participaing in numerous extracurricular activities.

Joseph will be entering his second year at UC Davis. He's working hard on his degree in Crop Science while also enjoying intramural sports and other activities, such as planning events for his dormitory.

While a student at Central Union High School, Allison participated in many activities, served as a volunteer, and received many academic awards, all while earning an excellent GPA and working part-time. Allison will be a fresman at UCLA this fall and is looking forward to beginning her college career.

Brittany will be a freshman at Brigham Young University this fall, where she'll be working on a degree in Animal Science. She was extremely active throughout her high school career and maintained an outstanding GPA at Brawley Union High School.




Keyanna Howard

Keyanna is entering her first year at Imperial Valley College, where she will major in Animal Science and minor in Ag Business. She is a graduate of Brawley Union High School and is looking forward to beginning her college experience at IVC.

Teresa is beginning her freshman term at the University of California in San Diego. She graduated from Calipatria High School, where she was an active participant in many extracurricular activities.

Valerie is a first-year student at Imperial Valley College in pursuit of her degree in Ag Education. She was an active member of her FFA chapter at Imperial High School. She has loved the outdoors since she was a child and looks forward to using her agriculture degree to further that love.

Vanessa will be a sophomore at UC Davis this year, were she is working on a degree in Biological Science. Vanessa has served in many leadership roles throughout the years while maintaining her GPA. She is looking forward to the years to come at UC Davis.

Andrew is continuing to work on his degree in Ag Business at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. A Holtville native, he is anticipating graduating and returning to his hometown to start his own farming operation. Andrew has been working as a hay broker while attending Cal Poly.
